How do you feel when your body is sweating?
Most of us find it very uncomfortable. But we should know it has good role to maintain our body homeostasis that is internal environment.
We have four million sweat glands distributed in our whole body. Out of four millions sweat glands, three millions are eccerine type of sweat gland. This eccerine glands secrets colorless and odorless fluid. This process helps to maintain our body temperature. Thus sweating is an important mechanism by which body maintains its temperature.
Eccerine sweat glands are more in palm, sole, forehead and cheeks.
We also have apocrine type of sweat glands in our body. They are located in limited area like axillary and urogenital region. They produce relatively thick fluid which may undergo bacterial decomposition. Due to the bacterial decomposition, bad odor from sweat comes out.
There also some sweat glands which are mixed in nature. They are called apoeecerine sweat gland. They are found in axillary and perianal area. This type of gland began to develop in puberty. They are related with abnormal increased sweating. Study shows that, in some patient with abnormally increased sweating (hyperhydrosis), have 45% of apoeecerine type of sweat gland in their axillary area. Although mechanism is not known till now.
One very interesting thing is sweat gland on palm and sole is stimulated by emotional stimuli. This explains when you are in anxiety your palms are sweaty!!
What causes the odor in sweat
Often people suffer from bad smells from sweat. Earlier in the article, it was mentioned that bacterial decomposition is responsible for bad or foul smelling from sweat. So, the basic rule for removing bad smell of sweat is to prevent bacterial growth in the area of sweating.
Many things can be done to prevent bacterial growth in the area of sweating. But we are going discuss about some things which are easily available at home and cheap.
Take your bath regularly. It is very important. But remember regular use of soap in not mandatory. Wash away your underarm, inner thigh and anal region with clean water.
Wipe your underarm with vinegar solution. It will reduce the number of odor causing bacteria in underarm. Shave your under arm, pubic and anal area regularly. Because hair follicle can entrap bacteria which can cause bad smell.
We all know that citrus fruits acidic. Lemon is most commonly found all over the world. Wipe your sweating area with lemon juice. It will make an acidic environment which will reduce bacterial growth.
Rose water can also be helpful. Apply some rose water daily in your underarm will give you a deodorant effect.
